Curriculum AdoptionAs part of the district's ongoing efforts to ensure our students gain the literacy skills critical to success beyond high school, the Board of Trustees is considering the adoption of new core curriculum resources in English Language Arts (ELA). The resources include: EL Education, formerly Expeditionary Learning, ELA curriculum for grades 4-8 and the Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Writer's Workshop for grades k-6.

Teachers, parents and patrons are invited to review the materials, which were presented to the Board of Trustees during its March 9 meeting. Many of the resources are available online, but the materials also can be reviewed in person. Schedule a time  Questions? Send them to us

The Lucy Calkins Units of Study for Writer's Workshop is being recommended for adoption for grades k-6. The on-demand writing assessment from each unit is now the district's direct writing assessment measure. The curriculum:

  • Is built on best practices and proven frameworks for writing instruction
  • Includes grade-by-grade plans for student-centered writing workshops
  • Is designed to meet Idaho Core standards for writing and language
  • Addresses all three writing types -- information, narrative and opinion/argumentative -- in each grade level
