Do you want your students using critical academic language throughout the school day? Do you struggle to identify the best words to teach and then how to teach them in an engaging way so that students make the words their own? You are not alone. “No aspect of instruction enjoys more inconsistency in practice than vocabulary development (Kinsella, 2015) Participants in this course will complete four main tasks: develop a collective agreement on what constitutes effective vocabulary instruction based on research, identify academic words for their own grade level (according to the CCSS), use their current curriculum to select appropriate high utility words, and finally, follow a research based routine for teaching these words. Teachers will have work time to embed their grade level words into the weekly routines
