Welcome to Eagle Rock Middle School
Eagle Rock Middle School educates students in the 7th and 8th grade to prepare them for success in high school. The student body is composed of students from; A.H. Bush, Ethel Boyes, Fox Hollow, Hawthorne, Longfellow, Temple View and Westside. After Middle School these students go onto Skyline High School.
The middle school years — 7th and 8th grade — are critical in a child’s development. Students have the opportunity to explore their talents and develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they will need to be successful beyond high school. To help ensure our 7th and 8th graders thrive, Eagle Rock uses advisory and team planning in its middle schools. The goal is to provide students with the most supportive environment possible so they can make a successful transition from elementary school to secondary school and eventually to the world of college and/or work.
Eagle Rock uses Advisory periods to allow faculty to meet with small groups of students so students have a better chance to connect with caring adults. Advisory also allows schools to more easily schedule special events and activities that can help students better navigate the difficult middle school years. Research shows the outcomes of a successful advisory period include:
- improved academic achievement;
- increased test scores;
- improved student attitudes;
- improved student-teacher relationships;
- a lower number of drop outs and a more successful transition to high school.
Eagle Rock has Team Planning that allows teachers to collaborate on behalf of their students. Through common planning, teachers work to align curriculum and address the academic, developmental, social, emotional and personal needs of 7th and 8th grade students.
