Get A Jumpstart on College With Advanced Opportunities

Changes to Idaho’s Advanced Opportunities program make it easier than ever to get a jumpstart on college. Beginning fall 2016, every student in grades 7-12 who is an Idaho resident attending an Idaho public school will receive an allocation of $4,125. Students can use that money to help pay for overload classes and dual credit classes that allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. They also can use the money to pay for advanced placement tests, professional technical certifications and other exams.

Every Idaho student has the chance to participate in this program. In Idaho Falls School District 91, we are committed to doing everything we can to ensure our students take full advantage of the Advanced Opportunities program. It's easy!

Step 1: Sign the Fast Forward Participation Form
To take advantage of the Advanced Opportunities program, students and their parents/guardians must sign the Fast Forward Participation Form. Signing the form indicates the student and their parent/guardian agree to the programs' conditions and provisions.

Step 2: Create an account with the Idaho Department of Education at Advanced Opportunities.(If you’ve previously participated in Idaho’s Advanced Opportunities program you can use your existing account. You DO NOT need to set up a new account.) How to create an account.

Step 3: Meet with your middle school/high school counselor to create or review your 4, 5 or 6-year learning plan. These plans help students make their post high school dreams come true.  Reviewing options and intentionally selecting classes is a critical part of making sure students make the most of the Advanced Opportunities program. Students will want to think carefully about how to best use the $4,125 allocated to them.

Step 4: Sign up to pay for courses, college credits or exams during specific registration windows. To take advantage of the Advanced Opportunities program, students must sign up for courses and/or exams during the registration windows set by the district. Learn more.
